Description
This large and weighty luxury fountain pen from Pelikan?s Souver?n series has an elaborately striped body made of cellulose acetate and an inbuilt differential piston-filling mechanism. Pelikan was the first company in the world to introduce the differential piston mechanism in 1929. This technique causes the spindle inside the fountain pen to turn quicker than the end piece of the barrel, with the help of two different threads. The design has since evolved but the basic mechanism remains the same even today and is used in many pens. Adhering to a special Pelikan recipe, the raw material cotton is processed through many different steps and shaped into a striped sheet. It is then moulded into the right shape, cut and sanded with a diamond. Next, the characteristic double clips at the back of the barrel and on the cap are integrated into the material. This is done with the highest precision in order to obtain a virtually seamless transition between the materials. The writing instrument is then polished to a high sheen before the slightly springy clip with its famous stylised beak is mounted.
Its palladium-plated trims and green ink window give the instrument a unique and splendid style. The 18k gold nib is plated with rhodium and is available in Extra-Fine, Fine, Medium and Broad.
